What is a Chassis Dyno?
Where an engine dyno measures power directly from the engine, a chassis dyno measures engine output or drivetrain output at the vehicle's drive wheels. In short, an AWD chassis dyno consists of a platform with four rollers, a braking or power absorption system, and software to calculate power output.
Why a Chassis Dyno?
The chassis dyno has the ability to measure power at the drive wheels—the “real world” performance of a vehicle. You can make tuning changes and test parts to find out the effects on power, as well as get the most out of performance-adders. A chassis dyno can also give you a good idea of how efficient your drivetrain is. In addition to these benefits, Karl Performance also has the capability to monitor air/fuel ratios, via an O2 sensor in the exhaust, and various other engine parameters.
While a pure engine dyno is beneficial, it does not give you to-the-wheel numbers like the chassis dyno will.
Determining and perfecting the true overall performance(horsepower and torque) of a vehicle's drivetrain is where the chassis dyno really shines.
This general service allows customers the opportunity to see what horsepower their vehicle makes at the wheels.
$100/hour (includes wideband hookup to measure vehicle's air/fuel ratio)
$695 for one day rental (up to 8 hour session)
Custom tuning gives you the opportunity to work with a professional tuning specialist to get the most out of your vehicle. We also have the ability to do things such as disable speed limiters, active fuel management, custom shift points(computer aided gear selection), CAT delete for offroad applications and much much more. Pricing includes dyno time.
